JJ Abrams Is Making A New TV Show And It Sounds Pretty Cool

Hollywood and TV all-star J.J. Abrams is writing a new TV show and is currently shopping it to networks, according to a report today from The Hollywood Reporter. The drama is reportedly set in space, focusing on a family’s struggle from tragedy to a new dimension.

From THR: “Sources say the Abrams drama is about a family–consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter–who all get into a terrible car crash. After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up transporting to another land amid a world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world.”

If the untitled new show gets made, it would mark Abrams’ first return to TV since Fringe, which he created in 2008. Abrams is a huge name in TV, as he also co-created Felicity, Lost, and Alias. Recently, Abrams worked as an executive producer on HBO’s Westworld and the upcoming Stephen King Hulu show Castle Rock.

Abrams’ new show is now reportedly being shopped to networks, including HBO and Apple. It is unclear what other networks may be under consideration for the show. It sounds like it is still very early days, so there is also no indication as to when the show might premiere or who would star in it.

Abrams directed 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and was recently named the director Star Wars: Episode IX after Jurassic World‘s Colin Trevorrow dropped out.
