In the video above we run down the essentials that’ll make holiday shopping easier, and all the items we recommend are listed below. You can check out all our gift guides here on GameSpot; no matter what platform someone plays on, we have you covered.

PS4 Slim Bundle – $250 to $300 (depending on bundle and HDD size)

Besides a low-profile redesign, the PS4 Slim is similar to the original PS4, but it’s now the base version of the system. There are multiple bundles that include games like Star Wars: Battlefront II, NBA 2K18, or Call of Duty: WWII, so now isn’t a bad time to get someone a sweet PS4 package.

PlayStation 4 Pro – $350 to $450 (depending on bundle and HDD size)

The PlayStation 4 Pro is a more powerful version of the base system. To get the most out of a PS4 Pro, owners would need a 4K HDR TV; the Pro has enough horsepower to render higher resolutions and many games take advantage of this.

PlayStation VR – $350 to $450

PlayStation VR can be snagged as a bundle that includes Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda’s fantastical open-world game. The bundle also includes the required PlayStation camera and two Move controllers. Considering games like Resident Evil 7 and Doom VFR are out now, PSVR would make an exciting gift.

Sony Gold Wireless Headset – $100

Sony’s Gold Wireless headset sports a sleek, minimalist design, and it’s lightweight; this makes it easy to put on or take off, and it’ll rest easily on your head. The earcups are dense and should make it comfortable for long sessions. You’ll get strong bass, good overall sound quality, and even an option for virtual 7.1 surround sound.

WD My Passport 2TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive – $80

The PS4 makes it easy to use an external hard drive to expand storage space, which someone should consider since the internal drive can fill up fast. Western Digital’s My Passport drive is a physically small and cost-effective option that uses a USB 3.0 connection for fast data transfer.

SCUF Infinity 4PS Pro Controller – $130

SCUF’s Infinity 4PS Pro offers some extra features that could come in handy for those who play competitively. There are several customization option from the color scheme down to the type of analog sticks. Most importantly, the two programmable paddles on the back can be mapped to any other button, so you can keep your thumbs on the sticks at all times.

DualShock 4 Translucent Controller – $60

Sony just released new translucent DualShock 4 controllers; they come in three different colors that are retailer-specific. The Crystal SKU is exclusive to GameStop/EB Games, the Red Crystal model is exclusive to Best Buy, and the Blue Crystal variant is exclusive to Walmart.

PlayStation Plus 12-month Subscription – $60

A 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus costs $60. Not only does this grant access to online multiplayer, but the service offers multiple free downloadable games every month and special sale prices on the digital storefront.

TCL 55P605 4K HDR TV – $600

TCL’s 55P605 is arguably the best budget 4K TV. Considering it supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision and costs $600, it almost sounds too good to be true. This pairs nicely with the PS4 Pro.
