The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Follow-Up May Have Its Star Actress

In March it was announced that a follow-up to the crime thriller The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo had found a director and would arrive in theatres in 2018. It has now been reported that Claire Foy, the star of the acclaimed Netflix series The Crown, is in consideration to play the lead role of Lisbeth Salander.

According to The Wrap, Foy tops the shortlist of potential actresses to play the iconic hacker in The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Foy won a Golden Globe earlier this year for playing Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, and will return for the second season later this year.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be adapted from David Lagercrantz’s 2015 novel of the same name. It is a continuation of the trilogy created by the late Stieg Larsson. The 2011 adaptation of the first novel, The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, was directed by David Fincher and starred Rooney Mara as Salander. However, it was not a commercial success and plans to adapt the next two books went no further.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be directed by Fede Alvarez, who scored a hit last year with the horror movie Don’t Breathe. It is scheduled to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
